To Buy or Not to Buy?

Before spending an extra $10 to $15 a day buying insurance from a rental car company, consumers renting a car should consider the following:

• Pleasure travelers who have a personal auto policy back home may not need to buy additional coverage.  
• Business travelers beware.  Neither the employer's business auto policy nor the employee's personal auto policy can be relied on to provide individual liability protection.
• Check with your credit card company.  Many credit cards provide additional protection if the card is used to rent a car.

Because so many variables factor into the decision to buy or not to buy car rental insurance, consult an independent insurance agent to find out what works best for you.
